Construction Begins on Royal Caribbean’s Latest Mega Cruise Ship
Construction officially began today on the 4th Oasis Class cruise ship from Royal Caribbean at a shipyard in France.
The first piece of steel for Oasis 4 was cut at the STX France shipyard marking the start of construction in what will be one of the largest cruise ships (possibly the largest) in the world.
The yet to be named cruise ship is scheduled to be completed in 2018. While the exact size of the ship has yet to be announced, it will be around 225,000 – 227,000 gross tons and carry over 6,300 passengers. The ship is expected to cost $1.35 billion (USD) to build.
The Oasis Class ships are by far the largest cruise ships in the world. The unnamed Oasis 3 is currently under construction with a launch date in the summer of 2016. The vessel will be 6 feet longer, 32 feet wider, and slightly over 2,000 tons larger than the Oasis and Allure of the Seas. More details about the Oasis 4 should be announced in the coming months.
